There’s lots of articles in the news lately about how one of our most necessary resources is under threat if we don’t take action to save it. We’re talking about Water – and we can all do our bit to stop wasting it simply because – for now – it’s readily available on tap. There are many ways you can save water – and residents of the City Of Coquitlam can save $100 in the process with the City’s Toilet Replacement Rebate Program.
If you’re in need of a new toilet for your home renovation – or are looking to replace your existing older toilet with a new high efficiency model – then now is the time to act. As of April 30th The City of Coquitlam is phasing out the Toilet Replacement Rebate Program, which means time is running out to get your money saving rebate.
In order to qualify:
- Applicants must purchase a high-efficiency toilet by April 30, 2015;
- Applications must be complete and received within 90 days of the toilet purchase date;
- Applications received after July 29, 2015 will not be processed; and,
- Refer to the details below on the rebate eligibility criteria and a list of supporting documents required.
- The City is partnering with BC Hydro to implement a clothes washer appliance rebate program this spring.
About 14% of the City’s total water use is used annually for flushing residential toilets. Old water-wasting toilets require 13 – 20 litres of water per flush while new high efficiency toilets (HETs) only use up to 4.8 litres based on single or dual flush models. Using less water per flush will conserve our valuable resource and save money in the long run.
The City of Coquitlam is offering a rebate of $100 for each toilet replaced with a new high efficiency model up to a maximum of two toilets per residential dwelling.
Toilets must have been purchased and installed after July 29th, 2004. The rebate is not retroactive. The rebate is only available to Flat Rate (residential) customers of the City’s Water Utility. Metered customers are not eligible as sewer and water rates paid are consumption based.
Old toilets that require more than 13 litres qualify for the rebate program. Effective October 3, 2011 high efficiency toilets must be certified (e.g. WaterSense, CUPC, CUL, CSA, or Warnock Hersey) as 4.8 litres per flush (single flush) or 4.1/6 litres per flush (dual flush) to be eligible for a rebate.
If required, homeowners must permit a City representative access to their property to ensure compliance with the program.
Submit a Online Toilet Replacement Rebate Application Form, completed in full by the registered owner of the property. Or print and complete a Toilet Replacement Rebate Application Form.
- A receipt for the purchase of a high-efficiency toilet dated after July 29th, 2004. Please specify the manufacturer’s name and model name for the toilet.
- A photograph of the old toilet in place.
- A photograph of the old toilet removed with the tank broken.
- A photograph of the new 4.8 (single flush) or 4.1/6 litre (dual flush) toilet in place.
The printed application form and supporting documents can be dropped off or mailed to Engineering and Public Works, Customer Service, 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C., V3B 7N2. If all documents are in conformance, a cheque will be sent to the applicant via Canada Post.
Old toilets can be disposed of at the Wastech Transfer Station for a small disposal fee.
